Farnborough College of Technology in memory of David Lockspeiser
The Farnborough Society presents our Extra Mile Award annually, in recognition of a business or organisation that provides exemplary service as well as making a significant contribution to the community.
Donations to the Town
The Farnborough Society has planted community fruit trees in both Cove Green and King George V Playing Fields. We hope to identify other sites where community fruit trees might be planted.
We have begun honouring the memory of individuals who have made a significant contribution to Farnborough with appropriate donations to the town.
We have launched a campaign to secure the future of the Victoria Road funeral chapel by raising funds to convert it into a columbarium for the storage of cremation urns.
Graveyard Family Day
Our organised events include walks, talks and tours covering a wide range of topics. We believe that the more our members learn about Farnborough the more they will appreciate it, and by arranging different kinds of activities, to suit all ages and abilities, we can enable everyone to experience something that will interest and excite them.
We aim to raise awareness of all aspects of life in Farnborough, so our talks may address topics as diverse as local government, utilities, the environment, development, emergency services, the arts or heritage. And, in exploring our town, we are forging strong links with a great many community groups and organisations.
In conjunction with Rushmoor Pedestrian Forum, we actively promote walking for health and for pleasure. We also aim to change attitudes so that the needs of pedestrians take precedence over the needs of motorists.
We have organised both historical walks and countryside walks, with knowledgeable guides to share their passion. The historical walks have revealed much of Farnborough’s hidden past and given ample reason for us all to take pride in our rich heritage.
Although essentially urban, Farnborough is surrounded by wonderful countryside and we regularly organise walks to explore waterways, woods and nature reserves, plus an annual fruit forage to take advantage of nature’s bounty.
The best way to appreciate what Farnborough and its environs has to offer is to get out there and see for yourself, and The Farnborough Society regularly organises tours to discover what is on our doorstep, including: St Michael’s Abbey; Farnborough Hill School; Air Accident Investigation Branch; Farnborough College of Technology; Prospect Road Allotments; Rushmoor Fire Station; Army Medical Services Museum; Drim Cong (Arts & Crafts House); Runways End; Aeronautical & Automotive Academy; Defence Food Service School; FAST Museum; Royal Military Academy Sandhurst; Farnborough Airport.
