The new bells for the bell-tower of St Michael’s Abbey have been cast, featuring the logo of The Farnborough Society in recognition of the society’s contribution towards the cost. The bells will now need to be polished and tuned in readiness for hanging.
The ceremony to mark the hanging of the bells was to have taken place in 2020, to mark the centenary of the death of Empress Eugenie, but has had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 crisis. Plans are being drawn up to the ceremony to take place in 2021, instead, when the Abbey hopes to welcome honoured guests from France to the last resting place of Emperor Napoleon III, Empress Eugenie and the Prince Imperial.
Further details will be provided nearer the time.
